Forrester’s map of the Douro

Joseph James Forrester devoted part of his work to studying and mapping the Douro. His “Mappa do Paiz Vinhateiro do Alto Douro” records the region in the mid-nineteenth century.

The river, slopes and estates appear in a survey that helps us understand the territory at that time. The Douro Museum holds a copy and identifies 1843 as its publication date.
