The valley that gives us our name

Palato do Côa takes its name from the river and the valley near Muxagata. The Côa is a tributary of the Douro, with a collection of prehistoric open-air rock engravings along its banks.

Animals and other figures were engraved in the rock over thousands of years. The Côa Valley rock-art sites were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998.
